CRISIS CONSULTANCY & SUPPORT

Crisis support before, during and after difficult situations.

Whatever the situation, we provide independent advice, practical recommendations and experienced support that helps organisations communicate with confidence and make better decisions under pressure.

WHY ORGANISATIONS SEEK CRISIS SUPPORT

Confidence before a crisis happens.

Many crisis plans were written for a different world. Today's organisations face AI-generated misinformation, cyber threats, heightened scrutiny and issues that can escalate in minutes.

Media First helps organisations identify vulnerabilities, strengthen crisis preparedness and respond effectively when pressure mounts.

From independent reviews and scenario testing to expert support during live incidents, we help teams make better decisions and communicate with confidence.

OUR APPROACH

Consultancy, testing and training working together.

STEP 1

Review

Identify outdated plans, unclear responsibilities and opportunities for improvement before testing or a real-life crisis.

STEP 2

Test

Validate plans, challenge assumptions and reveal how people, processes and communications perform under pressure.

STEP 3

Improve

Build the skills, confidence and capability teams need to communicate effectively when it matters most.

HOW WE HELP

Practical support. Independent challenge. Actionable recommendations.

01

Crisis Readiness Reviews

Independent reviews of plans, procedures, governance structures and crisis response arrangements. Identify strengths, uncover gaps and understand where improvements are needed.

02

Crisis Planning & Development

Support to create, update or strengthen crisis management and crisis communication plans. Ensure documentation is practical, accessible and aligned with how your organisation works.

03

Crisis & Issues Support

Support for organisations facing a specific issue, emerging reputation challenge or live crisis. We provide independent advice, practical recommendations and experienced communication support when the stakes are high and decisions matter most.

04

Reputation Management

Support for organisations facing reputational risks, stakeholder concerns or increased scrutiny. Many reputation challenges begin with a leadership issue, governance concern, employee action or isolated incident. We help organisations identify risks early, manage sensitive issues, protect trust and rebuild confidence following a crisis or reputational setback.

WHEN THE PRESSURE IS ALREADY HERE

Not every organisation calls us before a crisis.

While many clients ask us to review plans and strengthen crisis readiness, others contact us because they are already dealing with a difficult issue.

We have supported organisations facing regulatory scrutiny, reputation challenges, stakeholder concerns, sensitive organisational issues and complex communication challenges where the consequences of getting communication wrong can be significant.

In these situations, our role is to provide independent challenge, practical advice and an experienced external perspective that helps organisations make better communication decisions.

WHAT WE REVIEW

Looking beyond
the crisis plan.

When reviewing readiness, we assess more than your documentation:

Crisis Plans & Documentation

Practicality, accessibility, usability and alignment with organisational risks.

Governance & Escalation

Roles, responsibilities, decision-making authority and escalation pathways.

Crisis Communications

Messaging processes, pre-prepared statements, media handling procedures and stakeholder communication plans.

Leadership & Spokesperson Readiness

Confidence, visibility and preparedness of senior leaders and key communicators.

Stakeholder Assurance

Approaches to communicating with employees, customers, regulators, investors and partners.

Issue & Risk Management

How emerging issues are identified, assessed and escalated before they become crises.

WHY ORGANISATIONS CHOOSE MEDIA FIRST

Practical advice rooted in real-world experience.

We don't believe good crisis consultancy is about producing lengthy reports that sit on a shelf.

Much of our consultancy work comes from organisations that recognise their crisis plans need updating but lack the time, capacity or specialist expertise to review them internally.

Because we regularly design and deliver crisis exercises, simulations and media training, we have a unique insight into where organisations typically struggle when pressure arrives.

Our recommendations are practical, proportionate and focused on helping organisations strengthen crisis readiness before those weaknesses are exposed during a real incident.

OUR PEOPLE

Meet some of the people
you could work with.

One of the advantages of working with Media First is access to consultants who have spent their careers helping organisations communicate in complex and challenging situations. Rather than being passed to a generic account team, clients work with experienced specialists whose expertise matches the challenge.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions.

What are the most common weaknesses you identify during crisis reviews?

The most common issues are not usually missing plans. They are unclear responsibilities, slow decision-making processes, outdated assumptions, unrealistic approval arrangements and crisis documentation that is difficult to use when pressure is high.

Organisations are often surprised to discover that plans which appear comprehensive on paper reveal weaknesses when they are independently reviewed or tested through a realistic exercise.

We have a crisis plan. Why would we need external support?

Many organisations engage external advisers to gain independent assurance.

An external review provides an objective perspective on whether plans are practical, credible and aligned with today's risk environment. It can also identify blind spots that internal teams may overlook because they are too close to existing processes and assumptions.

How do you assess whether our organisation is ready for media scrutiny?

Media scrutiny often defines major incidents, but many organisations experience it for the first time during a live crisis.

We help organisations assess how their plans, spokespeople and messaging would stand up to challenge. This may include media simulations, realistic journalist interviews and testing how leaders respond to difficult questions, limited information and evolving circumstances.

The objective is to identify vulnerabilities before journalists, stakeholders or social media audiences do.

Can you support us during a developing issue or crisis?

Yes. Some organisations engage us to strengthen crisis readiness before an incident occurs. Others seek support when dealing with an emerging issue, reputational challenge or period of increased scrutiny.

We provide experienced, independent advice that helps organisations assess the situation, consider stakeholder expectations, strengthen communication decisions and respond with greater confidence.

How do you help organisations make better decisions under pressure?

The quality of crisis communication is often determined by the quality of decision-making that happens before any public statement is issued.

We help organisations establish clear roles, escalation processes, leadership responsibilities and communication structures so that critical decisions can be made more effectively when information is incomplete and pressure is high.

Do you provide ongoing crisis advisory support?

Yes. Some organisations require support for a defined review, exercise or project. Others value ongoing access to experienced advisers who can provide challenge, guidance and practical support when issues emerge unexpectedly.

This provides senior leaders and communications teams with an experienced external sounding board during periods of uncertainty or increased scrutiny.
