Media First Goes Live on R4!
Media First was asked to deliver one-to-one media training for the Chief Executive of the Energy Retail Association, Garry Felgate. All was going to plan until around lunchtime when Garry's phone lit up and he was bombarded with calls for an interview. This was not part of the training! The requests were in response to a press release that had been issued that moment about energy company profits and dividend payments.
Every news organisation in the UK wanted a comment from the energy companies' main representative body - the Energy Retail Association
Quickly our tutor Dominic Green worked with Garry to put out a holding statement which was almost immediately read out live on Sky News.
A Radio 4 request for a live interview at the top of the PM Programme came soon after.
Dominic coached Garry throughout the afternoon in our radio studio getting the message right and rehearsing the key points he wanted to get across. By 17.00 I don't know who was the more nervous - Garry, Dominic, or the Media First team glued to the radio.
Garry delivered a flawless interview in a live BBC link up from our studios.
